Airport Plaza
The airport’s newest building, the Airport Plaza, was officially opened on 4th December 2008. Also designed by architects von Gerkan, Marg & Partner the Airport Plaza is a perfect match with the rest of the airport’s architecture; both visually and functionally. It has been designed in the same style as the flanking terminal complexes, which it also interconnects. The Airport Plaza is the site of a central security checkpoint. This means that every passenger on their way to a departure gate will pass through one of the 16 aviation security checkpoints located in the building. In addition to this both of the baggage handling systems currently located in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 will be brought together on the lower ground floor of the Airport Plaza. With a floor area of 4,900 square metres the Airport Plaza is smaller than Terminal 2 (5,850 square metres) and Terminal 1 (6,300 square metres).
